Bangladesh’s BEZA is to train 2K persons under the PRID project

Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority is to start a skill development program that will involve 2,000 people. These individuals were selected from Bangabandhu Shaikh Mujib Sharif Nagar (BSMSN). BEZA plans to continue to employ approximately 22,000 individuals from the seven countries’ economic zones under the Private Investment and Digital Entrepreneurship Project (PRID).

According to multiple Bangladeshi media reports, BEZA and BSMSN offer opportunities for trained workers in Abdul Monem (Japanese EZ), Bay Kishoreganj and Private Economic Zone Meghna.

Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority is going to start a skill development program that will involve 2,000 people. These individuals were selected from Bangabandhu Shaikh Mujib Sharif Nagar (BSMSN) areas. The PRID project will see BEZA train around 22,000 people across seven Bangladeshi zones.

“Later, under the skills voucher programme, 20,000 people will be trained and employed according to the skilled manpower needs of investors in various economic zones,” said BEZA executive chairman Shaikh Yusuf Harun at the first workshop on ‘Skill Development for Sustainable Business Management in Economic Zones’ at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka. Harun said that the training program for 2,000 individuals will soon be initiated, with priority given to those who are most affected by BSMSN.

BEZA will focus on a variety of industries to develop skilled workers. This includes garments and related industries as well as integrated textiles and leather and its products. Harun said that the initiative will include various government agencies such as the National Skills Development Authority, Bangladesh Technical Education Board and the National Skills Development Authority.

PRID is a project that was started in 2021, and will run until 2025. World Bank has provided Tk 4,347 million in loan to the scheme.
