Turkiye’s Q1 2018 garment exports surge by 14x to Saudi Arabia

Turkiye’s clothing exports to Saudi Arabia soared 14-fold during the first quarter of 2023. They reached a total of $52.242 millions. The figures are nearly twice as high as the last quarter and represent a substantial increase over the same time period in the past year. Turkiye’s clothing exports are part of a general increase in bilateral trade, after a period diplomatic tension. 

Relations between Turkiye and Saudi Arabia had been strained in the aftermath of the 2018 assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, with bilateral trade—including the textile sector—suffering as a result. The two countries’ efforts to normalise the relationship have resulted in a significant increase of clothing exports. 

Turkiye’s clothing exports to Saudi Arabia increased by 14-fold in Q1 2023 to $52.242 millions, an impressive increase over the same time period last year.
Turkiye’s clothing exports increased by nearly $62.730 in value in 2022. This is a significant increase in trade between the two countries.

Textile trade is changing between the two nations. Turkiye garment exports were $3.592 in Q1, 2020, and $5.038 in Q2. Then, in the Q4 of that same year they jumped to $30.867 million. This culminated in the Q1 this year at $52.242 millions. Turkiye’s total apparel exports in 2022 were $62.730million. Due to diplomatic problems, Turkiye’s garment exports experienced a decline in 2021. The leaders of both countries took action to rectify the problem. Exports to Saudi Arabia have recovered from a 91 percent drop to $14.415 millions in 2021, down from 172.870 dollars in 2020.
