Japan’s clothing imports to reach 255,736 million yen by April 2023.

Japan’s clothing and accessories imports increased by 13.2 per cent to 255,736 million yen (approximately $1,833.09 million) in April, the first month of the new fiscal 2023-24 (FY24), accounting for 2.9 per cent of the total imports of 8,721.226 million yen during the period under review, according to the provisional trade statistics released by the country’s ministry of finance. 

In the first quarter of the FY24, imports of yarn and fabrics for textiles reached 94.114 million yen, an increase of 5.5% over the preceding fiscal. Japan’s imports of textile yarns and fabrics accounted for 1.1%. 

In April 2023 Japan exported textile fabric and yarn worth 66.794 billion yen. This represents a 4 percent increase year-on-year. Exports of textile machines were worth 27,936 millions yen. This represents an increase of 8.2 percent from exports during the same period in FY23. They contributed 0.3 percent to total exports. 

Clothing and accessory imports to Japan in April 2023 rose 13.1 per cent, reaching 255.736 million yen.
The imports of yarn and fabric for textiles increased also by a further 5.5%, to reach 94.114 million yen.
Japan’s textile exports have increased 8.2 percent to 27,936 millions of yen. Yarn and fabric exports are up 4 per cent.

Japan’s clothing and accessories imports were 3,619,550 million yen (approximately $26,979.35 million) during FY23, 26.1 per cent higher than the imports of FY22. In FY23, textile fabric and yarn imports were worth 1,275,608 millions yen, a 23.2 percent increase. In FY23, Japan exported textile fabric and yarn worth 776 999 million yen. Its textile machinery exports were valued at 306,781 millions yen.
