Japan’s “yukata” boom is much more than just a fashion trend

There are three futures possible for traditional wear in an age of fast fashion. The first is that a garment like Japan’s expensive and formal kimonos are viewed as a niche item, often worn by wealthy people on special occasions or by those who practice tea ceremonies.

The other is cosplay. Body-line-revealing QipaoThis genre includes a Chinese dress that my Chinese friends wear as retro-chic, or the German dirndl which is worn by waitresses in beer festivals.
