AGEO Saitama — Seigakuin University students held a fashion showcase featuring used clothes on Nov. 16, to raise awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals of United Nations (SDGs).

Unwanted clothing was deposited on campus in collections bins that were used to make the outfits. Around 30 students from Tokyo’s Aoyama Gakuin University, Kanto Gakuin University, Yokohama and others, got on the runway wearing dashing outfits to show off their best looks.

Ryota, 21, a third year student, led the project. “Upcycling” is a way to make something new and add value to worn clothes.

Hiroshi Nishikai, an associate professor, stated that he hopes students will question their way of life and reconsider it.

It was held in celebration of this year’s official opening at the Seigakuin Sustainable Center. This center is part of the University’s efforts to support the U.N. SDGs.
