aepc – India-Australia trade pact helps boost garment exports

The AEPC stated Wednesday that the implementation of the free trade agreements between India and Australia would help increase garment exports. On Wednesday, the Australian Parliament approved the agreement and paved the way for its implementation.

Naren Goenka (Apparel Export Promotion Council) chairman stated that duty-free access to Australia for the sector under the trade pact will put domestic exporters in line with their global counterparts and increase local product competitiveness.

He said, “This will provide an opportunity for Australian companies to embrace China plus one,”

An AEPC delegation recently participated in the International Sourcing Expo (Australia)
Goenka stated that Australian businesses are anxiously awaiting to strengthen ties with India and source textiles and garments from India. This deal will give them a boost.

He stated that AEPC “will be facilitating Indian companies to connect the right partners through its Export Promotion Initiatives.”

Australia is a significant trading partner of the Indian garment industry. Exports account for about 4% of all Australian garment imports.

He noted that the zero-duty agreement with Australia in Australia’s southern hemisphere would keep Indian factories fully utilized during this lean period, with orders for summer and spring products that Indian players excel in.
