Varun Gupta uses AI to create a visual series that highlights the drawbacks of surveillance in private life

Hyper-surveillance is the norm in our hyper-connected world. Social media is a key tool in this dystopian world where our identities are reduced to bar codes, speech is restricted and we’re constantly monitored. We are trapped in this cycle, and we must accept these methods to survive in our society. The surveillance culture is gaining more control over us, and it’s important that we take action.

Varun Gupta created the visual series “CCTV Nagar”, a fictional city in which CCTV cameras monitor your every movement, word and thought. A large number of cameras dominate the images, illustrating the idea through symbolism. This dystopian scenario highlights the diminishing value of privacy in a society that continues to violate individual freedoms and rights. Showing the dystopian reality of a society where privacy is not possible. Capturing a life where individuals are under constant surveillance by an authoritarian government.

“CCTV Nagar” is a reminder of the devastating consequences of giving up our rights in exchange for security. Imagine a future where total control of public and private lives is foreseeable. The founder and creative director of a boutique future forward content production company ‘We Create Films’, Varun is a self-taught filmmaker with a background in animation. Varun uses AI to bring important issues into focus using his artistic vision. Oft capturing an imaginary cinematic universe where futuristic themes dominate the story.
