BGMEA calls on Custom House to improve services and make them faster

Faruque Hassan, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association BGMEA (BGMEA), has called on the government to simplify customs procedures and remove all barriers in order to provide faster and more efficient services for RMGs.

He stressed the importance of Bangladesh reducing lead times in a global marketplace that is highly competitive. This will help maintain Bangladesh’s competitiveness.

The BGMEA’s president called for the meeting while leading a group of delegates to a Monday (18th September) meeting with Mohammad Fyzur Rahman. He is Commissioner at Custom House in Chattogram.

According to a press statement, the goal of the meeting is to identify and resolve key issues related to customs processes affecting the industry for ready-made clothing (RMG).

Faruque, during the meeting, also highlighted the current challenges facing the RMG Industry, namely a slowed down in the orders due to global economic effects of the Russia/Ukraine War.

He stressed the importance of government cooperation and support to ensure that industry can navigate through these difficult times.

The BGMEA delegation informed the Customs commissioner of the difficulties that garment exporters face in relation to customs services.

It was urged that the Customs Authorities take immediate action to address these issues, and to streamline the services provided for the RMG sector.

The Customs commissioner acknowledged that the RMG sector has made a significant contribution to Bangladesh’s socio-economic development.

He listened attentively to the concerns of the BGMEA’s leaders and assured that Customs House would provide comprehensive support in order to solve these challenges and improve services to RMG Exporters.
