A Dearborn-based company is proving that modesty and style don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

Studious Monday, a clothing brand that makes sustainable and contemporary ready-to wear clothing for women, is located in New York. Nawal Alsaeed is the founder of the company. The focus of this brand is on women’s modesty. The fashion brand’s The first complete collection is now available.

‘Modest Mod’ is the theme, paying homage to the British mod scene of the 60s and 70s. To create bold, modern silhouettes that reflect the transformative age, these garments are made with corduroy and recycled polyester wool.

Since over a decade, Alsaeed has worked on the idea of modest wear. Studious Monday is a collection of everyday items that are easy to update any wardrobe.

For the fashion industry, modest wear is everyday wear, yet it’s often left out of high fashion conversations. Alsaeed claims that the 2020 Black Lives Matter movement was a positive step in moving the conversation forward for people of colour.

“I see some changes, I definitely see some shifts, [but] we still have a long way to go,” she says. “I feel like I’m personally feeling a lot more confident entering and creating that space for myself, whereas years ago, I didn’t even think I had the opportunity to do so.”

Now, in 2022, Studious Monday’s F/W collection is available online and offers understated items without the flash but with all the swag.

Und für Alsaeed, her clothing line is focused on everyday women and allows her Muslim faith to inspire them.
