Epson to End Sales and Distribution of Laser Printers

Japanese printer and electronics maker Epson has announced that the distribution and sale of laser printer hardware will cease by 2026. The company cited sustainability concerns. Report: The company claims that inkjets are more likely than laser printers (and can make significant advances for the environment). Although the company had already stopped sales of laser printers in several markets, they continued their operations in Asia-Europe. Epson promised that it will continue to provide consumables for customers, even though no new hardware is available in all markets.

Inkjets are more energy efficient and use less consumables, Epson’s sales and marketing manager Koichi Kubota said in a canned statement. Epson Heat Free inkjet technology, which uses mechanical energy instead of heating toner and then fusing it to the pages like laser printers, consumes much less electricity.
