Japanese printer and electronics maker Epson has announced that the distribution and sale of laser printer hardware will cease by 2026. The company cited sustainability concerns. Epson promised that it will continue to provide consumables for customers, even though no new hardware is available in all markets.
Inkjets are more energy efficient and use less consumables, Epson’s sales and marketing manager Koichi Kubota said in a canned statement. Epson Heat Free inkjet technology, which uses mechanical energy instead of heating toner and then fusing it to the pages like laser printers, consumes much less electricity.
