Ghana will unveil its textile and garment manufacturing policy by Q4 of 2023

Kobina Hammond, Minister of Trade and Industry in Ghana, said that Ghana had developed a policy for textiles and apparel manufacturing and a framework with incentives to encourage foreign investment. The policy will be revealed in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Hammond stated that he hoped to transform Ghana into a global apparel hub, by taking advantage of the need for cost-competitive destinations.

Organised by the American Chamber of Commerce –Ghana, the US embassy in the country and other partners, the two-day expo with the theme ‘Leveraging US-Ghana trade relations for growth and prosperity’ offered a platform to foster bilateral trade collaboration.

Kobina T. Hammond, the Minister for Trade and Industry of Ghana said recently at the US-Ghana Business Expo 2023’s inaugural ceremony in Accra that Ghana developed a policy on textiles and apparel manufacturing as well as an incentive structure to draw foreign investors.
The plan, which aims to make Ghana the global hub for garment manufacturing, will be announced in the final quarter of the year.

A Ghanian publication reported that the bilateral trade was at an all-time record of $3.7 billion. Ghana’s exports were worth $2.7 billion.

Hammond noted that support has been increased for private companies, domestically and abroad, in order to increase production and exports.
