India joins FTA negotiations with Canada, UK and EU: PiyushGoyal

New Delhi [India]ANI, December 17th, 2017 (ANI). Union Commerce and Textiles Minister PiyushGoyal stated Friday that trade negotiations are currently being held with UK and Canada. The minister also said that the EU and Gulf Cooperation Conference have been invited to attend. She said that Bangladeshi and Vietnam’s garment exports had improved because of certain benefits. The Commerce Minister stated that Bangladesh is among the most underdeveloped countries and thus the country has duty-free access to world markets.

Vietnam has also signed a free and duty-free trade agreement with EU, which gives it a lot of benefits. The minister stated that exports of our clothes to the European Union are subject to a 9-10 percent tax. India does not get these benefits, he said. He stated that while FTA (Free Trade Agreement with Australia) has been completed, trade talks with Canada, the UK, and European Union are currently being held.

Piyush Goyal stated earlier that the textile industry was committed to reaching the $100 billion export goal by 2030. After meeting leaders from the textile sector in Varanasi, Goyal said that Kashi and Tamil Nadu will play an important role.

The textile industry has a lot of faith. PiyushGoyal, the Textiles Minister said Thursday that they would achieve the USD 100-billion target and will be the biggest creator of jobs and employment in this country.
