Bangladeshi garment workers strike nationwide after Eid in protest of the murder of a labour leader

Following the alleged killing of the Gazipur unit president of Bangladesh Garments and Industrial Workers’ Federation Shahidul Islam recently, garment workers and labour leaders in Bangladesh have threatened to go on a nationwide strike if the Government failed to ensure justice for the slain labour leader.

This was reported, adding that labour leaders held a subsequent protest rally entitled Arrest and mete out capital punishment to the killers of worker’s leader Shahidul The Industrial Bangladesh Council (IBC) organized a rally in Dhaka in front of National Press Club.

The protesting labour leaders also reportedly demanded the arrest of Prince Jacquard Sweater’s authority, in front of which the labour leader was allegedly killed as well as the other miscreants who were involved in the alleged killing of Shahidul Islam.

Reports added that two other workers had also been severely injured in the Sahidul attack, and were later hospitalized.
